The ICF defines coaching as “partnering with clients in a thought provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential. The process of coaching often unlocks previously untapped sources of imagination, productivity, and leadership”.
A coach is a partner, a sounding board, and a motivator, providing support, understanding, curiosity, validation, and a safe space to help clients improve their personal and professional lives. The coaching relationship is person-centered and strength-based, offering collaborative support to assist clients in achieving their desired personal and professional goals.

A Word on Coaching for Adolescents
“Adolescents are in a sensitive stage of development. Their social cognition is developing rapidly, which means they’re much more sensitive to others’ judgements about them. They’re more self-conscious as they’re developing their identity and trying to decide where they fit in. They’re dealing with heightened emotions and sensitivity with hormone surges related to biological changes that are still very new for them. They’re wired to be more impulsive and engage in more risk-taking as they’re developing a willingness to separate from their family and create their own way.“

Mental health therapy and/or counseling is provided by a state licensed mental health practitioner. A licensed qualified clinical therapist helps with mental health diagnosed disorders such as bipolar disorder, moderate to severe depression, anxiety disorder, schizophrenia, panic disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and suicidality. A licensed mental health professional deals with issues from the client’s past that are causing problems in their current lives, exploring issues such as family of origin and deep emotional trauma which can help uncover why they behave in the way they do. Often a licensed mental health practitioner will also be involved in client’s care when the client’s symptoms are impeding coping and everyday functioning and causing the client distress.
